Balancing work and family- How To Keep The Balls In The Air #moms

All mothers are extremely busy and hardly ever have any time to themselves. This is because many moms have to hold down a full time job these days just to survive. Looking after the kids and going to work every day is like having two full time jobs. Balancing your family and personal life is often seen as being very difficult, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.

The work/family balancing act

To effectively balance your working life with your family life you need to create clear boundaries. It can be tempting to bring just keep working- especially when you have a deadline looming; however this isn’t a good idea for anyone. If you are already working at home with the kids it is important to impose some boundaries on your work time and make sure that you spend work-free time with your family.

Separating work and quality family time can be difficult for most people. Thinking about work can be stressful, and there are also all sorts of events that we need to think about when at work.

To avoid this you should allow yourself a certain time for working and make sure that you don’t blur these boundaries(and this includes people who work at home). Do your best to complete all of your work before you leave the office or workspace.

Weekends

During the week most of your time will be consumed with working, that’s where the weekends come in. You should make full use of the weekends so that you can spend lots of quality time with your family. Try planning something special to do at the weekend that you and the kids will find enjoyable.

You could have a special family meal on Friday night for example. You could even experiment with cooking food from all around the world every week. Doing something that you both enjoy will help bonding and also make the whole family much happier.

Overtime

All families could use some extra money and that’s why the thought of working overtime is very tempting. However if you do any overtime then this will not only mean that you have less time to spend with your family, but it will also mean that you are more tired when you return home or finish working (in the case of WAHMs). This could mean that you don’t have the energy to do something exciting at the weekend.

Of course there are some times when overtime might be essential and unavoidable. If there is an important deadline around the bend, or you have too much work to do then overtime might be the only option. Try and avoid overtime as much as possible as this will dramatically improve your family life.

Although being a mom is never easy, it is possible to balance your family and work life. You just need to pay attention to your own behavior, if you think you are spending too much time working and not enough time with your family then you need to adjust this. Figure out your priorities and make sure you realize your family is the most important thing in the world. Being a working mom is a challenge, but it’s very rewarding!
