Most couples these days both work to provide for their family. This is great if your kids are older, however if you have young kids then you already have a full time job just looking after them.
Most women would like to be able to give up their jobs so that they can spend more time looking after the children. A very close girlfriend of mine did just that.
This had a very damaging effect on her finances, as soon as she gave up her job she had a lot less money to spend. Not to mention having to spend much more money than she used to. Like most other mothers she was trying to find a way to make some money without having to leave the house. Many of these work from home positions have a bad reputation, however there are actually some real options to work from home.
When you are planning to start a home based business it can be confusing and off putting. Many people don’t want to set up their own business because they think that they will have to work very long hours and fill out lots of paperwork. It’s not actually as bad as you might think and running your own business can be very rewarding.
To set up your own home based business you must first think about your unique strengths and weaknesses. Decide exactly what it is you’re good at and how you would like to make money.
When I was trying to come up with a great business idea I thought of several different areas before I actually chose the one that was suitable for me.
Photography
This is obviously not for everyone however, if you’re any good at photography then the internet makes it possible to turn your photographs into a valuable business. Do you often receive a lot of compliments for your photos? If so then this could be an ideal business for you. Digital cameras have made it easier than ever to shoot photos, and a studio can be set up in a spare room of your house.
You have a few options when selling photos; you can either create a website where you upload all of your shots to. Alternatively there are many stock photo websites which work as a market place. To use these you simply need to register an account and then upload your photos.
Event Planner
Some people are excellent at arranging all sorts of events; if this describes you then you could quite easily establish yourself as an event planner. This is a fantastic job for stay at home moms because you can fit it around your children.
Consulting
If you are a professional business person or have a lot of experience at a particular field then you can set yourself up as a consultant. These consultancy positions will be on a freelance basis and this means that you can fit them around your children.
Freelance
If you’re good at doing pretty much anything then there are various freelance websites on the internet where you can work. These were initially set up as a way to outsource computer software to programmers; however there are now positions available for writing, internet marketing and web design.
I make my income online and find that I can easily replace my pre-baby income in this way. It also allows me time with my son and I am in charge of my own work hours. If you believe you can do something then you will more often than not find a way. I am happy and successful and 18 months ago I didn’t even know the first thing about internet marketing.
